That leaves the keyword tag. Because the keyword meta tag has been abused so often, many search engines give this tag only limited importance. However, it is still a tag that should be used on every page. A few of the smaller search engines still use them, and you never know when one of them might take off and become one of the major players. When writing this Meta tag, make sure you never repeat a word more than two to three times. While the major search engines may not use this tag, they might just penalize you for over use of the tag.

Since you never know where the search engines are going to come into your site, make sure you optimize every page. Use the Meta tags with specific information in the tags relating to the content of that particular page. Do not just copy and paste the same Meta tags for every page on your site.

While all of the above is important, the number one thing to keep in mind is that search engines are robots. They do not see pictures; they do not see that “KEWL” Flash design; they only see the code. Code is text. Make sure your website has a lot of text. However, also make sure you do not bog your website down with too much frivolous code that the robots will have a hard time reading.

Each and every page of your website should have a minimum of 250 words. While this total is debated by many, it is a number that TiMoGo SEO & Design uses as a minimum. Make sure each page reads clearly! Just stuffing in words to please the search engines can backfire in MANY different ways.

While using graphics, such as buttons, to navigate around your site can look good, it is often better to use text links. The text links are easier for search engines to read.

A site map is now an essential part of a website. They help your guests find the items on your website that they are looking for, and at the same time, allow the search engines to know about ALL the pages of your website.

Exchanging links can be a vital part of Search Engine Optimization. However, make sure the page you are exchanging links with is NOT a “link farm”.

When first starting your website, it can be prudent to submit your website to the smaller search engines. However, it is best for the major ones to find you themselves. By building a good reputation on the internet, the big ones will find you themselves.

Please keep in mind that the above is just the very basics of SEO & Design! While the above will help you greatly if it was not done before, it is NOT everything needed to reach the top! TiMoGo can help you with all of this; and then use other techniques often used by professional SEO experts to help you reach the top of the search engines and bring in more buying customers.

After all, the goal is to increase profits and the best way to do that is to increase your company's visibilty.

Good luck with whatever decision you make!
